Italian for beginners

Ciao a tutti,

I must admit, that i am really inlove with Italian language, and i have been willing to learn it for so long. It just seemed i was never motivated enough. Only when i really had the need to speak it, i thought it was the time for me to get to know it better (I really had no choice!!!)

It is not easy to learn any language by yourself. Having a teacher is always better and more motivating, at least because you would have  to always do your homework  :) . But since i am more of an independent student, i have decided to learn it alone, online and from several books i could buy in Moldova.

However, I don't want to recommend any specific book, because i must admit i did not really use many of them! We are  lucky to live in an era when everything is available online for free and you just need patience to find what you need. Therefore, my studies were mostly based on the websites i was able to find. It actually surprised me to discover that there is a site dedicated to people who plan on immigrating in Italy, founded by the Italian Government.

Ok, less talk and more action!!! Here are the sources which you can use when trying to learn Italian:

              1. BBC Languages

It has a basic vocabulary for beginners and very useful phrases. Here you can save the audio files and listen to them while you get back home from work. Very useful for a person who is at the very beginning.

             2. Poliglot. Italian in 16 hours

It is an YouTube channel created for those who speak Russian and want to learn a new language. Besides Italian, they have many other languages. So if you are a Russian speaker, don't wait too much, you have the great opportunity to learn a couple of new languages!!! The best part of this link, is that a) you have a teacher; b) he explains everything from the basic level.

           3. Duolingo
It is a great App you can download in your phone. You will have the possibility to learn new words and phrases. Not only their correct spelling but also pronunciation. I loved it! But since it is targeted more on beginners, I've got a  bit bored of it. But i admit that it is an interesting and useful application. You do need access to the Internet in order to be able to open it.

           4. Il grande portale de la lingua italiana

This is my favourite site. I have spent entire hours on studying here and i honestly loved it. Although the program is not new ( it has around 10 years) it is however rather entertaining and interesting. Here you can find Video stories about a family which has recently moved in Italy and which is learning what are the opportunities offered by the state. Besides that, each lesson has a grammar section where you will have to complete a great variety of grammar exercises. The good thing about these lessons is that they are all divided into levels. So you will start at the A1 level, and end at the B2 one. I am currently working on Livello A2 and as i have already mentioned, it has been very useful for me, and in the short time of 2 months i felt more comfortable while speaking Italian.

Attention: This lessons are provided only in Italian language, so I do not recommend them for absolute beginners. Basic knowledge of the language is required!

Well, my friends, that's all for now, in case i discover something new i will definitely let you know! I wish you good luck and never give up!!! If you ever feel like practicing your Italian, you can always text me, because I could use some practice as well :)

Yours,

A.
