Discover Tenerife

Note: It is our 3rd week of quarantine. This is the perfect moment to think of better days. Less than 2 months ago we were discovering Tenerife. It was a perfect getaway, right before the whole COVID-19 nightmare started.

Las Americas
Amazing, beautiful, colorful, unique, peaceful...these are just some of the words that one can use while describing Tenerife. In reality, it is such a  beautiful and breath-taking place that you can not really describe it. You have to see it in order to understand its value.

The idea of visiting Tenerife got into our mind one late night. We were dreaming about the beach, warm weather and the ocean. It's been one of our dreams to visit the ocean. So where could we go? Of course, the Western European coast. But the temperature there wasn't as high as we would have liked it to be. Therefore, we aimed for a further destination. We had to choose between Tenerife and Las Palmas. Considering everything: flight hours and connections, hotels, weather, things to discover, we chose Tenerife.

Tenerife is a small island from the Canary Islands. It is famous for its perfect weather all year round. Some people even call it "the island of eternal spring".

While packing, I was very skeptical about the weather. I didn't know what clothes to bring, especially for Oliver. But, when we got there he didn't use half of the stuff I brought. It was so hot that he just stayed naked 70% of the time. Our boy doesn't really like clothes.

So, when our plane was landing, I knew we were about to have an amazing vacation. The view from the window was different from what I had seen before. Imagine brown mountains and hills, no green vegetation, no big cities,  no skyscrapers.  Nature there has it's charm. It breaks so many stereotypes. For example, we are used to seeing golden sand on the beach,  but you can see black volcanic sand in Tenerife. There is also Teide National Park, where you can see the trees growing out of rocks and you walk and touch the lava from the last Teide's eruption. Isn't it amazing?

We spent 3 days discovering Teide, but I did not get enough of it. We wanted to get on its top with the funicular, but the children under 3 years old are not allowed. So we had to renounce. Maybe we will be back one day!!!
Masca

We also visited a small village called Masca. It is located up in the mountains, and the road to get there was extremely narrow. I am used to narrow streets at high altitudes, as there are many of them here in Piemonte. However, the way to Masca seemed very dangerous to me. But the destination is worth it. We couldn't spend more time there, but I can assure you, the things that I have seen there will always have a place in my heart. We even bought local oranges, which tasted divine.

What did we eat there? Obviously we tried local dishes like paella( which is actually original from Valencia) and tortilla, chicken soup, seafood, local fruits. But, since we rented an apartment, I cooked home most of the time. Eating out is fun, but not always, especially when you have a baby. Of course, I wanted to get some rest from the stove, but we had to choose what was better for Oliver.

If you consider visiting Tenerife here is  a list of things you could do and places you should see:

- The beaches
There are so many different beaches in Tenerife, they all are different from each other and are worth visiting ( Las Americas, Los Gigantes ...)

- Teide National Park
Teide is a volcano and it is the highest point in Spain (3718m). The Park is a breath-taking place, not only because of Teide. When you go there, you might think you are on a different planet.

- Teide Cable Car
We could not take it. Babies under 3 are not allowed.

-Masca

-Siam Park and Siam Mall

- Whales and dolphins sightseeing
This was a unique experience for us. I have never seen so many dolphins. The excursion itself is beautiful. Think of it, you are on a boat on the ocean, with a wide view of the island.

We took hundreds of pictures. At some point I was already tired of posing. Yes, this is possible :). I will leave some of them here, as  remember of that delightful and careless week.

Thank you for reading me,
Take care,
Alina
